Glasshouse Orchard Auntumn

From October for two months, the main activity is apple picking. Ripe cider apples fall when the sugars are ready therefore strong backs are essential as sacks are filled and transported to cider manufacturers at Much Marcle or Awre. One bumper crop was 7.5 tonnes and several trees lost branches with their load. Some pruning is a regular activity.

In 1999 on 21 October, Apple Day was celebrated for the Wildlife Watch groups of Gloucestershire at Glasshouse Orchard. Willow weaving, minibeast hunts, wood carving and creating an Applosaurus from logs took place as well as apple bobbing and apple gifting. Many local people took the opportunity to visit on that day to see what changes had taken place.
